Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

October 17, 2019 by booksyoushouldlove@gmail.com Leave a Comment

Every month, my family receives a free book in the mail. High-quality, beautiful, and well-known books. Many award-winners. A mix of classics and currents. FREE! How? I signed my kids up to be part of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which in our area is sponsored through United Way. Dolly started the program to get books into the hands and homes of preschoolers in her home county in Tennessee. The idea caught on and there are now programs reaching families with young children across the United States, into Canada, and even the UK! The goal is for children to be exposed to books from a young age, be excited about books, and increase their literacy in preparation for school.

If you live in an area with a partnership program, your child(ren) can receive these books, as well! All you have to do is go to the website and register your child (www.imaginationlibrary.com). Each month from age 0-5yrs, your child will receive a brand-new book in the mail. We LOVE our monthly books. In fact, I have featured a few of them on this website! (ABC, Look At Me and POUCH!) Not a single one has been lame or unenjoyable for us.

If your area does not have an Imagination Library program, YOU can help get one started! At the top of the main page is a link “Start A Program”. Follow the directions and you may be able to help significantly impact your community’s literacy rate!

These are just a handful of the titles we’ve received over the years. These have become some of our family favorites.
