Blog-Tober!

October 1, 2019 by booksyoushouldlove@gmail.com Leave a Comment

I recently saw another blogger post about Blog-tober. The idea of blogging something EVERY DAY for the month of October immediately appealed to and intimidated me. I haven’t blogged in over a year (thanks in large part to an absolutely adorable (and unexpected) little munchkin who is currently napping!) but the itch to try again has set in. I figured, why NOT? I have absolutely nothing to lose by trying, so here we are. I am modifying it to my own preferences, and my plan is to post a new blog 3x a week, and post a corresponding IG post alternate days, with Sundays being social media-free. Now that I’ve put my goals out there for you to see, let’s get started!

My son recently started kindergarten (where did my baby go?!) and we have been reading TONS of back-to-school and fall-themed books. No complaints here, these are some my FAVORITE books EVER! One that stood out for us was Mo Willems’ newest addition to the Pigeon books, The Pigeon HAS to Go to School. (warning: this review contains spoilers!) True to Pigeon’s personality, he tries to talk the reader out of “forcing” him to go to school. He throws a fit and tries to make all kinds of excuses, only to realize in the end that he actually WANTS to go to school (mostly because he finally gets to ride a bus!). My son, being an exuberant and highly emotive kid, has always enjoyed the Pigeon books, but this one resonated with him on a deeper level. The Pigeon expresses his anxiety and fear over the unknown of what school will be like. This was a huge connection point for him, and gave us a good spring board to help my son express his own trepidation about school. (and should you think I have a snooty know-it-all, no, he did not use the word “trepidation”. I just happen to like that word.)
