Murder on the Orient Express

September 22, 2017 by booksyoushouldlove@gmail.com Leave a Comment

Who doesn’t love a good Book-Made-To-Movie? I think it speaks highly of books when they are so loved they get immortalized on both page and screen. Plus, I get some geeky thrill out of catching all the details the screen writers missed/changed and pointing it out (most annoyingly) to whichever poor sap is sitting next to me.

That’s why I am *SO* pumped about 20th Century Fox’s upcoming release of Murder on the Orient Express this November!! When I first saw the trailer, I’m pretty sure I squealed…because not only is it an Agatha Christie novel, but it’s got Judi Dench and Johnny Depp, two of my favorite actors! (You can see the trailer here: http://www.foxmovies.com/movies/murder-on-the-orient-express)

As excited as I was, I knew I needed to get reading…this is one of her books I had not read, and there was no way I could go to the theater without reading it first. (How would I catch all the changes?!) Being a mom of two littles at home, finding time for leisure reading is difficult. So I decided to enlist my husband. On a recent road trip, I began reading it aloud. It’s surprising how much slower reading aloud is, but it was so fun! Not only did we linger over the book together (it took us about 2 weeks because our reading times were always interrupted by children refusing to sleep at their appointed times), but we also spent more time together, without the distraction of a screen. After every few chapters we would discuss our latest theories and mull over the question of “Who dunnit?!” So, there’s a little freebie marriage advice. Read together. <3

All that to say, Agatha Christie’s book, Murder on the Orient Express, is SO GOOD. There were twists and turns, confusing jumbles of clues, and never could I fully justify my reasoning for my latest suspect. The end was totally unexpected and thoroughly satisfying! If you intend to see the movie this November, PLEASE do yourself a favor and savor the book first. You won’t regret it!
